Friends are friends forever
Every now and then, we’d be at the food bus for the homeless in Poznan—a wonderful initiative from CHRISTianer.org. Our help wasn’t anything too exciting; sometimes, we’d lend a hand with the food, share a smile here, a hug there, a cup of coffee with a cookie, a little attention. The team running it is small but steady and solid. The conversations are really meaningful, theologically sound, and no one beats around the bush—just great and, for me (M), a very peaceful environment.
You could come if you could, and if you couldn’t, that was fine too. You could help out if it worked for you, and if not, that was all good. It was a calm and safe environment.
We also picked out the homeless people there whom we saw potential in—the ones who were actively working on their way out of all that misery. They came and went, sometimes you had no idea where they were headed, and some ended up in good places.
And now, that era has come to an end for us, and we’ve said goodbye to that amazing team and the people we were serving. I have to say, it was really complicated. The last few spontaneous cups of coffee… and that was it… And finally, they sent us off with a song:
And friends are friends forever, if the Lord’s the Lord of them.
And a friend will not say never, because the welcome will not end.
Though it’s hard to let you go, in the Father’s hands we know: That a lifetime’s not too long, to live as friends.
