In a time in which silence is becoming increasingly rare, we are working on a new project that invites visitors to learn again how to listen and reflect. The project is called “Voice of God”.
The foundation of this project lies in a biblical principle of meditation and focus on God’s Word:
“This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.” (Joshua 1:8)
“But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night.” (Psalm 1:2)
“My eyes anticipate the night watches, That I may meditate on Your word.” (Psalm 119:148)
These texts form the core of what “Voice of God” seeks to connect with: the conscious meditation on God’s Word as a living practice of attention and stillness.
The project is designed as an interactive space in which light and sound come together around one central theme: the character of God as described in the Bible. In the space there is no music, no explanation, and no additional voices guiding the experience. Only Bible verses form the content of what is heard.
Scattered throughout the space are small speakers from which Bible verses are audible. These verses speak about attributes of God such as love, holiness, faithfulness, justice, redemption, and majesty. The texts are not carried by one single voice, but by more than one hundred different people who have lent their voices to the project. This creates a multiplicity of voices that together form one unified whole.

The verses are presented in different ways: sometimes as a single thematic line, sometimes as a collection of texts around one attribute of God’s character, and sometimes in overlapping compositions in which multiple voices can be heard at once. The space therefore changes continuously, while the content always remains connected to the same foundation.
In addition to sound, light plays a central role in the experience. Each category of God’s character is connected to a color. For example, love and redemption may be represented in warm red tones, holiness and purity in white light, and heavenly majesty or the work of the Spirit in shades of blue. The light moves with what is being heard, creating a subtle interaction between what is heard and what is seen.
Visitors are able to start the experience themselves. From that moment, the project runs automatically for a fixed period of time. During this time they are invited to remain in a space where nothing is required of them except attention: attention to the words and to what those words reveal about God.
The combination of more than one hundred voices, the carefully tuned interaction between light and sound, and the way visitors enter and experience the space together form a cohesive whole in which experience and content reinforce one another.
What remains is the core:
A space where the Word sounds through many voices, carried by light, in which visitors are invited to become still, to listen, and to reflect on who God is.
“Voice of God” is designed from the beginning as a mobile project that can be constructed and experienced in different locations. In this way, the installation can travel from church to church, creating the opportunity for people across the country to be invited in a direct and experiential way to listen to His Word.
