About two weeks ago, we got the question again: “Where does the name Emmy from your foundation actually come from?” It’s a question we hear more often, and it makes sense—none of us are actually named that.
Still, the name has a very special story that fits perfectly with our mission.

The story of the bike “Emmy” and our logo

Our foundation is named after a very special bike: the “Emmy.”
After World War II, the director of the Primarius bicycle factory developed this bike especially for his daughter, who was also named Emmy.
The most striking feature of the bike was it’s longer, curved front fork. This innovation gave the bike extra stability, so Emmy’s father knew his daughter would ride safely and securely.
And the best part? The original “Emmy” bike is right here in Schwerin.

And this brings us straight to our logo. The front wheel of that specific bike, with its distinctive fork, is the core of our emblem.
It symbolizes the stability we aim to provide.
But there’s more: the spokes in the wheel represent the different directions and groups we reach with our support.
Just like the spokes make the wheel strong and keep it moving, we want to support people from all kinds of angles.

Stability in life

Just like the curved fork gave the “Emmy” bike stability, we want to increase stability for the people we serve when they need it most.
Life doesn’t always go as planned. Sometimes people face setbacks that shake them more than they expected.
And sometimes the blow is so big that they literally fall down.

When someone can’t make it on their own anymore, we want to be there.
We help people get back on their feet, stand by their side, and walk with them for a while.
Our goal is to restore stability for the people we serve, so they can confidently keep moving forward on their own path.

A solid foundation: a Biblical promise
The basis of our work is our faith in God the Father and Jesus Christ His Son. This faith is our firm foundation, the ground on which we stand strong. God the Father teaches us in the Bible how to live with Him. He wants to care for us and invites us to follow Him.

By building our lives on this foundation, with Jesus Christ as the cornerstone, we build a house that stands firm. When life’s storms and unexpected setbacks come, our house doesn’t fall over, but stays strong. Just like the “Emmy” bike was built for stability, we want to help people build their lives on an unshakable foundation.

We find this beautifully expressed in Psalm 18:37:

“You made my steps secure; You set my feet on a rock.”

This verse reflects our desire: just like the Emmy bike gave stability, and just like God paves a steady way, we want to help people stand firm in their own lives and not stumble.

Great story! But did it also occur to you that Emmy sounds like M, E, as in the first letter of the first names of you two intrepid servants of God?!
