A song to wake up with…
I had this song from “Jovink and the fodder beetles” as an “alarm clock” on my cell phone for a while. A “nice” song to wake up to, and you can bet that you will quickly turn off your alarm when this starts playing!
I now have a normal alarm clock, but I came across that song again this week.
Yep. That’s a LOT of noise, and that will get you out of bed fast!
Loosely translated into English, it goes like this:
Wake up you lazy….. Life is a party. There is nothing to laugh about in your sleep. That’s what you do when you’re awake. If you’re on your deathbed, and you deeply regret what you didn’t do. Why did you only see it now?
Open your eyes man! Wake up!
Yep, not the most “soft” song, but if you can look past that… Then there is something that should make you think. What are we doing? Are we doing things that were fun or were we doing the “rat race”?
Just like Hamsters on such a wheel, running like wild, but without a goal… Or worse:
Rat race: a way of life in modern society in which people compete with each other for power and money.

And while we’re at it… one step deeper… are we only busy with things that seem fun to us, or are we also doing something useful that really matters? So not just the rat race or lalala and beer, but something that really matters? How is your neighbor doing, the homeless person you often see on the street, that refugee, the….
Maybe you are not able to help them all, or you have no idea how you could do that, but perhaps you can support people (in whatever way or form) who do have access to those target groups? Then, you help people whose lives are not (as that Jovink song puts it) a “party”. And perhaps Jovink’s music is not for you at all, but perhaps this tells you something:
Do this, knowing the time, that it is already the hour for you to awaken from sleep; for now [a]salvation is nearer to us than when we first believed. (Romans 13:11)
Your light must shine before people in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 5:16)
Do you participate with us in waking up, or do you help someone else who wakes people up? We could use some help to be honest….
