How safe is it over here?

It is war in our neighboring country and that is also noticeable on this side. What examples?

  • The Polish government now has a plan in place that every Polish citizen can follow a training course with, among other things, self-defense, shooting training and survival techniques. This training is organized by the Ministry of Defense.
  • All air-raid shelters that are there are inventoried and reactivated where possible.
  • The coal is running out, and some apartments are no longer being heated as a result, there is a run on electric heaters here and there, but that only shifts the problem and creates others.
  • The coal that is then delivered is sometimes of such poor quality that you cannot keep the stove on with it.
  • The numbers of Americans we encounter are increasing rapidly. They primarily work at the American army base nearby.
  • On the highway, we come across more and more army transports. It looks like West Germany in the 80s again.
  • The Polish government is working to set up distribution centers for potassium iodide tablets in the event of a nuclear emergency caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

So, yes, how safe are you? Given the (American) soldiers who walk around here, it is actually quite safe here. Perhaps even safer than in NL.

A better question might be, how safe do you feel? And yes, the above messages don’t really diminish your sense of unease. On the other hand, what are you worried about?

Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither. do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly. Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

Matthew 6:26

So, that’s what we do. Every day. The bible is so clear that we should NOT rely on our own thinking about anxiety, fear, or whatever.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:5-7

As soon as you forget that for even one minute… you’re done for.… And I think that could be a lesson for everyone.

Every day we enjoy what we can do, every day we see people’s lives change (for the better), every day a smile somewhere that can’t actually be there (humanly speaking), but is there.

We enjoy it every day. And we laugh at the “luxury problems” we sometimes hear from the “west”… what do we worry about sometimes… it’s all relative, so you better worry about what you can do for someone else today… come on, get moving!

And do we take things that change into account? Sure we do, (as far as possible) but lying awake about it? No, today is another beautiful day.
