Eating with a homeless person.
Last week, we went “out for dinner” again with a homeless person here in the city. His (nick)name is “Happy” because that’s what he wanted to be, but yeah… that wasn’t really working out for him. He ended up on the street at Christmas, and since then, he’s been wandering around the city where he grew up.
We don’t just hand out money on principle (it usually ends up being spent on alcohol, cigarettes, or drugs), but we’re always happy to invite them for a simple meal. It costs around 10 euros per person, and it gives them a dry place to sit, share a meal, catch up, offer some encouragement, and, where possible, think along with them about long-term solutions for their situation (which is the ultimate goal).
We also try to find a place with a decent restroom, so they can use that too. Because while a toilet is just normal for you and me, for them, it’s often a luxury.
Can you please help us to help them? See: https://www.emmy.foundation/en/funding/ for more how you can help us financially, to help them.
