The bible is a great book to read, but not always an easy book to read. What does it say to us in these times?
We believe that the bible is God’s Holy, inspired, authoritative word of truth, and to give you an idea, let me introduce the Bereans who were mentioned in the bible:
As soon as it was night, the believers sent Paul and Silas away to Berea. On arriving there, they went to the Jewish synagogue. Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. As a result, many of them believed, as did also a number of prominent Greek women and many Greek men.
Acts 17:10-12
And that’s what we do as well. We not only read it, we study it.
The key difference between reading and studying is that reading is the process of understanding the meaning of the letters and symbols, whereas studying is the process of acquiring and understanding knowledge.
With every verse we read, we ask ourselves: who did write it, to whom was it written, when was it written and if we know all of that (context): what’s the lesson that we can learn through all of it?
- Every week we study on one verse from the bible, and before we meet, everybody studies the complete chapter from where that verse is, at home.
- After one week, have a read through. (Together)
- Then we share what we just read and what verse did pop out for you / what verse is not clear for you / What’s the context? We share that with each other, so we can crosscheck whether what we found was correct or not, and help each other to understand what we just read.
- In the last part of the meeting, we have a look at how we can apply it in these days and give everybody the bible verse to study for the next week.
We meet every Wednesday at 17.30 hours, (Poznan Sołacz) till around 19.00 hours. This bible study group is interdenominational, everyone is welcome.
