When Your Heart Is Full, There Is No Room for Evil
A man came to me recently, struggling with an addiction.
His question was simple, but heavy:
“How can I stop this behavior?”
My answer was an illustration that he immediately understood:

“If a room is completely filled with concrete, there is no air left to breathe. The same is true with your heart. If your heart is completely filled with God, His Word, His Spirit, and His power, then there is no room left for evil to take root.”
It begins with filling your heart:
- Be filled with the Spirit: “And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit” (Ephesians 5:18, NASB).
- Hide His Word in your heart: “Your word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against You” (Psalm 119:11, NASB).
- Keep praying: “pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17, NASB), just as Jesus taught us in the Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13).
- Guard your heart: “Watch over your heart with all diligence, For from it flow the springs of life” (Proverbs 4:23, NASB).
Overcoming addiction is not only about avoiding something, but about actively filling your life with God. Every day, every choice, every thought: let them be filled with His presence. Give Him 100% and you will experience true freedom.
Yes, that requires commitment, strength, and energy. It will not simply happen by itself; you have to truly pursue it. But do not give up, because “in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary” (Galatians 6:9, NASB).
Doing nothing is not an option, because the Bible says: “The desire of the lazy man puts him to death, For his hands refuse to work” (Proverbs 21:25, NASB).
So take action, give Him your full 100%, and with God’s help you truly can overcome.
