What is love?
February 14 – Valentine’s Day – a day when lovers give each other extra attention with something sweet.
At least, that’s what marketing has turned it into: buy these flowers, cards, chocolates, jewelry, and so on.
But what is love, really?
The Bible says in 1 John 4:16 that God is love. So that answers the question of who love is.
And what love is? That’s described in detail in 1 Corinthians 13.
Love is patient, love is kind.
It is not jealous, it does not brag, and it is not arrogant.
It does not act disgracefully, it does not seek its own benefit,
it is not provoked, does not keep an account of a wrong suffered,
it does not rejoice in unrighteousness but rejoices with the truth.
It keeps every confidence, it believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never fails. (1 Corinthians 13:4-8a)
Every time I read that, it leaves me speechless.
This is how God loves me…
Wow.
And we love sharing that message with a heart and a card featuring both of these verses – who love is and what love is.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
