Whoe are you doing it for?
A while ago I received the following video from a brother and sister who are volunteering in a project. Just for context: this is a video of “Operation Christmas Child” from an American organization called “Samaritan’s Purse”. This is a project around the Christmas period where (literally) thousands of people fill shoe boxes with presents that go to children who are having a hard time. A beautiful project, and that is what this video is about. But pay close attention to this video… what do you notice?
Shall we reveal what struck us? This is the first thing you see:
Immediately(!), FULL on screen: PRAY, PRAY, PRAY.
It is immediately clear why they are doing this and what it starts with. Not for their own fun, not for their own honor and glory, but for God’s glory. Wonderfully clear. It is not the earthly goal (shoe boxes) that is paramount, but the goal of the goal: God.
And something else stood out… note:
Ditto, FULL screen, Good news! Great joy.
The good news, the gospel, comes first. And then the joy comes along too.
And yes, literally thousands of people are participating, literally millions of shoe boxes full of stuff are sent around the world because of this initiative, but it starts with: who are you doing it for? Very clear, right from the start, that is the foundation.
And the last thing that stood out: super tightly organized. No “do it yourself quality”, but sleek, neat, very well organized. Because when you realize who you are doing it for, you also know how to do it.
Wonderfully clear, what encouragement. And what a beautiful lesson for all of us.
