Prison….part 2… the verdict..
In October last year we wrote something about N being in prison in S. And yesterday (finally, after almost 10 months) the verdict came in… 9 years in prison… and the time N already (without conviction, nothing at all) was in prison? That time, does not exist, is not taken away from it and the reason that he is now being sentenced… in the Dutch press they called a similar case a sham trial….. for a sham reason….
What was it like in that prison?
How are things in S in prison?
- The family has to pay 1000 euros per month for food. And that food usually doesn’t reach N.
- When family or friends want to send a letter, 2.50 must be paid per page. The same applies when they want to get an answer back.
- Before the trial, N was first locked up in solitary confinement, where he was not allowed to sit or lie down and was tortured for hours… So he had lost all his fighting spirit when he had to report to the judge.
- Visits? Last two months, there was one moment when that was allowed. The visit was as follows: the family stands behind a glass wall while the prisoners walk by on the other side. No conversation, no hug… Just a look into each other’s eyes…
- Prisoners are actively recruited to join the army, then they are immediately released after their service. The chance that they survive that service? Maximum 5%…. Don’t want to join the army? Good luck in prison.
- In case of illness, the family is expected to send medicine. When they do that, there is a good chance that they will not end up with N, but will get stuck somewhere…
- A Bible in the cell is forbidden… With cigarettes he managed to smuggle in a Bible. His cellmates have told him that they will destroy the Bible. His response: If you touch my Bible, I will destroy you…

However, that Bible turned out to be the only distraction they have from their situation. They read the Bible together in jail!
This is happening now, in 2023… Unbelievable… 9 years… for…
