What is the reason that a Christian also tries to commit suicide?

Haven’t read part 1 yet? Stop and read part 1 first… see you soon! Done?… Let’s look at the next point…

What is the reason that a Christian also tries to commit suicide?

Because God is there for you and me, right? And we just saw that God has a plan for you and me.

And with that “seeing” we come to a problem…

Suicide attempts come from somewhere…. the cause is in most cases depression. The dictionary says the following about it:

~ Depression: Depression is a period in which a person feels very depressed for a while and does not enjoy anything anymore.

Note the word “anything”.

And then we come back to the “seeing” part. During my severe depression, it seemed as if I had dark(!) sunglasses on. A VERY dark pair of sunglasses. Perhaps even worse, it looked like an eye defect or even welding goggles.

The sun is there, but you can’t see it. Jesus the Son is there, but you do not see Him. The truth really seems to be different from how you experience it. You don’t see how the world really is. Your mind is playing a mean game with reality.

In my own case, I really didn’t see it. There must have been people who tried to show me that sun, but I didn’t see or hear it. Worse… I can’t even remember anyone trying that. So, it didn’t get that. Seeing blind, hearing deaf.

To speak with the bible:

The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?

Jeremiah 17:9

But there is hope!

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil.

Proverbs 3:5-7

So if you yourself, or someone else, are in those blind / dark circumstances, it is good to know that you should NOT trust that false thought (the sun / Son is not there), but that you MUST trust God “with your whole heart”. So, not a small piece, but 110%. And don’t rely on your own insight because that “view”… that is broken in a strong depression.

And those devilish sunglasses are VERY persistent. You really think you (don’t) see something else, you really believe in it. But the truth is really different. That sun / Son is indeed there.

And now back to that depression. It comes from somewhere, you don’t choose that yourself. No more than choosing to break a leg or get cancer.

Depression is a disease. No choice. Just like breaking your leg or getting cancer. And sometimes… unfortunately… cancer is terminal. No matter how hard we work at it, no matter how many pills we take, sometimes it’s terminal. And we lose the battle.

And depression can also become terminal if you don’t catch it in time. Just like with cancer.

What can you do about it? Let’s take a look at that in part 3. (click)
