Karma!
I had a conversation with X today and X is not doing well. (On the contrary) X wondered why, because he had done so many good things.
Another form / term for this is “Karma”. If you do good things you will get it back and if you do bad things it will come back to you. So X also wondered if his Karma was still good…..
There’s just one “little” problem with those thoughts…it’s not right. Not at all. Let’s face it, how many times have you done something good and nothing came back? Do you know that feeling? “Thanks for nothing”. That makes you think, doesn’t it?
On the other hand… how many times have you done something that was not right…. yep… that indeed. And did that come right back to you? No, Fortunately not! Or did the other person do something evil to you, but nothing happened to him…
So that “karma” thing doesn’t work. If we look at it biblically, we see the following:
For the wages of sin is death,
Romans 6:23a
In other words, every sin, no matter how small, leads to death. It doesn’t matter how “well” we do after that… thats scary stuff! But did you die immediately when you sinned? No, if you’re reading this, you’re still alive. Hey! How?
In other words, you don’t get what you deserve because you deserved death after sin…so it’s a good thing you didn’t get what you deserve! Yes, that gets you thinking… and here it comes… if we continue to look at that bible verse… it says this:
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 6:23
WOW! If you believe that Jesus died for you, you will receive God’s gift and not the death you deserved…but eternal life.
If you think that “Whoever does good meets good” will work, you will be disappointed again and again… Karma will not work either… and will also lead to disappointment after disappointment… But the grace that God bestows is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord , it’s real. And never leads to disappointments…
Something to think about…. also for X. Do you believe in Karma, or in a living God, who does not give you what you deserve, but gives you something, by grace, that is many times more beautiful… what do you believe?
And if you are a Christian… how can you even believe in karma? Karma comes from Hinduism and Buddhism, is based on reincarnation and is a false “belief” that leads to death….
Reincarnation does not exist:
Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,
Hebrews 9:27
And we don’t get what we deserve…
He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him;
Psalm 103:9-11
Thats grace… wow.
