Exciting Bible Studies…

Every Wednesday we give a Bible study for Expats.

The target group are Expats who are Christians. And now we could, of course, opt for an easy Bible study, but with this target group, we deliberately chose the top 20 Bible verses that are often taken out of context. Some examples?

“Do not touch my anointed ones; do my prophets no harm.”

Psalm 105:15

eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,

Exodus 21:24

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Ephesians 2:10

Or for instance:

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Jeremiah 29:11

And that is quite an exciting way to do study that in a Bible study. Because many of those texts seem fine at first sight, nothing wrong with that. But, if you look at the context… then you really see something different from what they are (unfortunately) often used for and also sadly abused. 🙁

And then it is very important for this target group to dive into, because if you do understand what the real context is, there is so much depth, so much wisdom and so much hope!

The Bible studies last about 1.5 hours, the preparation takes about six hours. Quite a job, but if you’re talking about discipleship, it’s more than worth it. The participants who come get homework every week, which is reading the entire chapter for the next week, which we will cover the following week. So, not that one verse, but the whole chapter that goes with it. And that is also quite a job for them, but also there, when you see what comes out of it… beautiful! More than worth it.
