What do you need during an inner conflict?

Before you can find a solution to your inner conflict, you first need to explore what’s really going on. One of the things you can look at is where your needs lie during the inner conflict. What are the things you need? What are the things you’re missing right now? And how could you meet those needs?

It can be quite complicated to discover what you truly need. That’s why we’ve made cards with all kinds of different needs on them. You can read them, and as you go through the various needs, it quickly becomes clear what you’re actually longing for. And it’s never just one thing—there are always several!

In the therapy group, we have already made the chosen needs concrete: what does that need look like, and how can I fulfill it? For example, the need for rest can be met by going out into nature or staying home and canceling an appointment. The need for understanding can be met by visiting a friend and having a conversation. And so on.

The result is an overview of “what do I need” and “how/where can I get it.”
It’s a tool for when you’re in an inner conflict and things become unclear because of the cacophony of thoughts and feelings. Look at your worksheet, choose what you need right now, and take action to fulfill that need.
