The first Aufatmen retreat has become a fact!
You’ve been able to follow a little of our involvement with Aufatmen (breathing out), a new initiative that offers retreats for German-speaking women missionaries. I (E) have been involved from the very beginning of the organization. My role has mainly been to help others understand the world of missionaries, contribute to shaping and refining the retreat theme, translate that theme into activities with their own specific focus, and be there for the participants, to encourage them and help them work through personal questions.

In addition to leading a creative content-focused workshop (more about that later), I also set up a craft table where people could browse materials, find inspiration, and create their own projects.
During the free afternoon, a small group of us sat together in the sunshine, chatting and crafting. People discovered new ideas to try out themselves and take home, whether for the people they serve, their own children, or their grandchildren. It was a relaxed way to connect and have conversations about something different for a change.
The theme of the weekend was ‘trust’.
Upon arrival, we affirmed the women in the trust they had already demonstrated by stepping into missionary work. The first full day focused on broken trust. The second full day centered on successful trust, and the final day looked at the trust we carry with us into tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, and beyond.

We experienced rain, thunderstorms, and sunshine. We were able to sit outside when we had planned to and retreat indoors when the rain poured down. Many meaningful conversations took place. We were able to meet the women where they were and encourage them in the journeys and processes they were going through.
Honesty, openness, fellowship, wonderful food, and connection.
Those are the words I would use to describe this long weekend.
Thank you for your prayers and your support during these intense and meaningful days!
