Portraying emotions

Like every therapy session, we start with a reflection: how are you doing now?
This time we use the feeling cards for that. A tool to find words for feelings you experience.

We start with a drawing exercise in which certain shapes are made and the assignment is to experience what that movement does to you. We use straight lines, wavy lines, angular shapes and circle shapes. There is also experimentation with applying pressure, adjusting speed and varying the size of the shape.

This information is then used to develop one of the chosen cards.

She chooses uncertainty.

Not knowing what is happening, what to do, as if in a dense fog. When she talks about her drawing, she realizes that it contains a lot of fear.

Opposite her is someone who has chosen certainty.

Two extremes against each other. She starts by drawing a clear line from the bottom left to the top right. This will be an arrow.

The movement itself gives her a sense of security. She adds all the shapes she feels: short lines, wavy lines and small circles. All in the movement of the arrow.

She concludes that when she feels insecure, she can make the move of the arrow because it makes her feel secure.

Movement evokes a feeling. Sometimes clear, sometimes vague.
This movement can be used to express, arouse or reinforce a certain feeling.
How special we are as human beings!
