Is Poland a free country?

A few times a year we are asked whether Poland is a free country and whether everyone there can be who they are. Somehow, some people in the “blessed west” have the idea that citizens in Poland are being persecuted if they walk with a rainbow bag, etc. We even receive messages about whether this is safe, or whether people can safely come to visit us. Well, let’s answer that with a video from a while back. (it continues below the video and be sure to watch until the end of the video)

Clear, right? In the Netherlands we see fewer rainbow flags, bags and hairstyles than here in the city. And no one, absolutely no one, even bats an eye. No one. You can walk around here with wings on your back, wear a cat mask, walk around with flags and bags whatever you want, walk around like the Pope, you name it, it’s all possible. That honestly sounds safer to me than plenty of cities I know in countries other than PL….

In other words, don’t believe everything you think you hear in the news of the country where you live. We don’t do that either. Call it propaganda or whatever you want, but news is biased, no matter what country you are in. Whether what some people do is healthy / good / unhealthy / bad is not up to me for this blogpost. And that reminds me of the following verses:

Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.

Acts 17:11

In other words, whatever someone claims, says, does, whatever the news tells you is good or bad, investigate for yourself. Always. Using the excuse later “yes, but the BBC, ABC, CNN, FOX News said something was good/bad” is not going to work. You are responsible for what you believe and not the news, your neighbor or anyone else can do that for you. Your choice, your consequences.

but test them all; hold on to what is good, reject every kind of evil.

1 Thessalonicenzen 5:21-22

And in the meantime in Poland? Everything is possible over here, much more than in the Netherlands in my opinion. In complete freedom. And yes, the consequences are also for yourself.
