Inflation… and hunger.
Just some numbers:
Inflation in Poland rose to 15.6% in June, from 13.9% in May. To put it in perspective, inflation in the US rose to 9.1% in June, from 8.6% in May.
On this side, we regularly hear: life in the US is getting so expensive…. Oh… don’t worry… here the value of your Zloty plummets even harder…
Do we suffer from that? Of course, we notice. An inflation of 9.1% does not make you happy, 15.6% does not make it any better…. And if we already notice it… then you also have an idea how much trouble the average polish person suffers from it. They are not happy, on the contrary. And you notice that in some conversations. Many people have not had it easy in the past…. But it doesn’t get any better this way.
To make the picture even worse, an example of just one conversation:
Sometimes I had a cleaning job, it paid minimally, and I could hardly make ends meet. But since the Ukrainians are here, there is no more work. Nothing. Because the Ukrainians work for even less money. And now I’m without a job. And everything gets more expensive… way more expensive. Yesterday I asked an old lady if she had something to eat for me because my cupboard was empty, I had no money left, but I was hungry…
We let him raid our pantry. He doesn’t know where to sleep next week either, because he has no money for the rent left. Anyway, for the next few days he has something to eat, and we gave him an address of a food bank… And this is just one example… our pantry is getting emptier, inflation is rising, what a world…
