How do you deal with your past? Even if what you did, was really bad?
We often cannot tell you much about the conversations we have with people, (they are privacy-sensitive, and we cannot and do not want to share them just like that), but through this bible verse we can give you an idea of what went on this week.
For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.
Hebrews 8:12
We actually use this verse quite a lot. We then let people read that verse and then ask them… what do you see when you read that text? The answer is usually: “grace”, “God forgives”. And that’s absolutely right. The first part states this very clearly:
For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
And then we challenge them to read it again… because the second part is downright fascinating!
and I will remember their sins no more.
No more remembrance…. mhhh…. God doesn’t think about it anymore… Say what?! Can you imagine it? As humans, we can (sometimes) manage to forgive quite well, and we understand that. If someone slaps you in the face, sometimes (sometimes after years…) you can forgive him… but forget it???? Don’t think about it anymore???? As in, gone???
If you believe that Jesus died for you… Then God does the ultimate thing with your past… he forgives and no longer thinks about it. Wow.
That doesn’t mean the road ahead will be easy… that doesn’t mean you’ll be there “tomorrow”… but there is a bright future at the end of the horizon! And what lies behind you… is gone. Completely.
