Evil spirits…..

Today, I had a conversation with X. She indicated that her sister and grandmother practiced witchcraft and tried to make her believe in the lies that the evil spirits told them. She was afraid that if she believed those lies, she (X) would go to hell.

Wow! Tough question! How do you answer that? Well… we didn’t answer that question ourselves and just like that… we are too weak for that. Full stop. So we started by putting on the “armor of God.”

Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

Ephesians 6:11-12

Because in all honesty…evil spirits do exist. If you believe in God… you must also believe in Satan…. he does exists. And that’s not a sweetie… on the contrary:

Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.

1 Peter 5:8

And then what? What would you say to X? We started with the question: Who is Jesus to you in times like this?

It seems like a strange question, but before we can continue to answer it, we first want to be sure who we are talking to. Is that person a Christian? Or not? Depending on that answer you can continue the conversation and without that information you are talking “into the air” that is of no use to anyone. Anyway, X’s answer was: “My Lord and savior and my only helper.”

Great! We can do something with that. Great answer! And now? We won’t take you through the entire conversation (it takes a long time…) so here are the main points:

  • The devil exists and is powerful. That’s not something to “play” with. Your sister and grandmother can also be powerful with that… but…. God is MANY times more powerful than your sister, grandma and satan. Full stop. (1 John 4:4)
  • You and I are weak… and we will always lose if we fight the battle alone… but… if we fight the battle with God, we can NEVER lose, and we will ALWAYS be the winner with Him on our side. (Psalms 108:13-14)
  • Where God is, Satan cannot be. If God is 110% in you, then Satan cannot be anywhere. There is no room for that. (Romans 8:31)
  • So the question is… are you allowing God 110% into your heart? Really and truly? (James 4:7-10)

But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.

1 John 4:4

And we’ll leave it at that for now, online. I think this is enough. Yes, it was a tough topic, the conversation did not end there, but the bottom line is: do you allow God into your heart 110%? Really and truly? Because, only if you do that, you will, together with God, be a winner. Always.
