Are the refugees doing better?

A question we often get is; How are the refugees from Ukraine doing now? Is it going better? Another variant is: what do you think? When the war is over, will they go back to Ukraine?

So lets you, as a reader, some questions….

• Would you be able to go back to your city or village when it is completely in ruins?
• Would you go back to your town or village if it still says complete, but the doctors and teachers are gone?
• Would you go back to your city or town if it still says complete, but it’s in the part where the Russians are?
• Would you go back to your town or village if it still says complete, but your husband is no longer alive…
• Would you go back to your city or village if it still says complete, but everyone has fled and lives all over the globe? So, your friends don’t live there anymore either.
• Would you go back to your city or village when it is completely in ruins, but it is your country!
• Would you be able to go back to your town or village if it is still complete, but the economy is completely in ruins?
• Etc, etc, etc…..

Yes, those are tough questions… to which we don’t know a generic answer either. There is no such answer, and we cannot give it to anyone. Not as an answer to you as a reader, but also not when we get the question from a refugee: what do you advise me? We do not know.

And here in Poland. Are they OK over here? Phew, here we go again….

• Are you okay if you earn so little that you can’t pay the rent, even if you work with more people?
• Are you, and the relationship with your husband, doing okay, …. if you haven’t seen your husband for months because he is still in Ukraine?
• Are you okay, if you have a good job as a cleaning lady, while you were a principal of a school in Ukraine?
• Are you okay, if your children need a man in the family, but who has been gone for months?
• Are you okay, if you really have no idea how things are going in the village you come from? Who still lives there, who will come back, where have my friends gone?

So, are things getting better? In all honesty, from our perspective? No. They are now in a different phase, but better? Certainly not…. There is still a lot, a lot to do… Things are different now, the problems are different, but better? No.

And if that war is over tomorrow? Is it better then? Read the above questions again… and then you realize, even if that is over tomorrow, before things will get better, it will take years…. 🙁
