All or nothing??

Today we had a conversation with K. He wanted to get closer to God, but that didn’t work out. And that really frustrated him.

After talking for a while, a few things stood out… he understood who “some sort of” God is. Who Jesus was, that was another issue. Wasn’t he the same as God? (uhh… yes and no…)

It was also noticeable that he wanted to get closer to God, but could not let go of his own past, so he experienced that as an obstacle to getting closer to God.

After we tried to explain to him who Jesus was and is, and what Jesus has done for him, he understood the difference between God and Jesus, and we moved on to what happened to his past if he believes what Jesus has for him done.

He indicated that he believed that, and then we asked him if he had ever told God that he believed that. His response was: “yes, sort of I guess”…..

And that was ultimately the point of the whole issue. Jesus gave up his entire life (and more) for you and me. Not “kind of I guess”, but 110%. If Jesus did that for you, and you want to get closer to God… how can God let you get closer to Him if you are “kind of I guess” free from your sins through Jesus….???

So that’s not possible. It’s all… or nothing… and K understood and believed that today… and K took THE step today… for the full 100% and more… Yes, it costs you something… but then you also get something!

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.
